Barb's Story!

Dec 23 1981

The day started out normally for my baby sister, a 16 year old teenager off school for the holidays and happily waiting for Christmas, which she loved. She had wrapped most of her gifts and was working on some cards for friends and acquaintances, which she planned to drop off later that day. My mother Muriel, and Barb spent that afternoon home together. I was 24 years old, married, and I had already begun my own journey in life.

My mom shared with me some of her memories of that day. Barb was rushing around the house getting ready to leave, trying to pick which clothes to wear, and get her makeup and hair just perfect. The first problem of the day occurred when Barb walked out the back door. As the door closed a pile of fresh snow from the awning fell on that hair she had just worked so hard to make perfect. Only if that was the biggest problem on Dec 23.

Barb had only worked 3 shifts, in total, at the Ideal Donut Shop in the Dominion Shopping Centre. She picked this job so when things where slow she could study for a school play. It was also just a short distance from home and my mother (One Great lady) could walk and meet her half way.

Around this time Terry Arnold was turning 19 years old and had just been released from a youth holding center. The officials were telling any one that would listen that he was a danger to the public and they felt he would harm someone! No one listened.

I am fighting Barb's battle! I feel that I did not get a chance to protect her, but I am willing to do all I can, to get her justice! I want her short 16 years to not be forgotten by you or us! For a young girl, her life after her death has survived longer.

Much more coming!
